Hey there! Folks call me Lydia, but around here, I'm the Principal Technician in the Geological Engineering Department at KNUST. Geology, for me, isn't just rocks and maps, it's stories etched in every layer, waiting to be unraveled.
Now, I didn't just pop out of a textbook, you know? Before inspiring future geologists, I spent 5 years knee-deep in the trenches – literally! – at Goldfields Ghana Limited, Tarkwa mine. Talk about baptism by fire! I was the database and QAQC geologist, wrangling drilling data, making sure everything was squeaky clean, and learning the ins and outs of the industry from the ground up. It was intense, yeah, but it gave me the kind of firsthand experience you can't get in any classroom.
But classrooms are where I shine too! For over a decade, I've been taking students on adventures, not just across textbooks, but out into the field, mapping, surveying, feeling the earth beneath their boots. I love seeing that spark ignite when they first understand how a rock tells its story, or when they craft their own geological map, a masterpiece born from sweat, grit, and maybe a little bit of mud.
Of course, it's not all dirt and drills. I've got an MPhil and BSc in Geology tucked under my belt, and I speak English and Twi fluently, which comes in handy when building bridges, both literal and metaphorical, with my students and colleagues. See, it's not just about the rocks; it's about the people, the connections, the way we all play a part in understanding this amazing planet.
So, yeah, that's me, Lydia Nnipaa Kumi. A geologist, a teacher, a storyteller, and maybe a bit of a rock whisperer. If you're looking for someone who can make geology sing, come on by, let's grab a map and explore the stories waiting to be unearthed!
